Test area for Sea dikes stabilisation

juni 2010

In may 2010 Terrastab was asked to perform a testcase for the Dutch government department for Coastal protection works. In this test strip a Geocrete foundation had to be constructed under a protective stone pavement in a existing sea dike. The test area was situated in the tide zone and under salt water circumstances but also under a slope percentage of 25%. The job was performed with great success by Terrastab.

Budel

november 2009

In Budel (in province of Noord - Brabant in The Netherlands) immobilization of so called “open Zinc Ash roads” has started. Appointed by an organization called ABDK (Soil Management Advisory “De Kempen”) Terrastab BV, in close co-operation with Van der Zanden Contractors from Moergestel,  has immobilized  an existing dirt road by using a mobile mixing plant.

A key objective within the project is not only to immobilize the existing soil including the polluting heavy metals (amongst others Zinc, Lead and Copper), but also to re-use the immobilized soil on site, without contaminated soil disposal to landfill sites elsewhere. The "new" road, built from the immobilized and reused soil should also retain its natural and rural character. The project is part of a pilot project initiated by the province of Noord - Brabant in which sustainable solutions should lead to the rehabilitation of most of the contaminated open Zinc-ash roads in “De Kempen” region within the next 5 years.

Boxmeer

augustus 2009

In Boxmeer, execution of the large bike path plan in the nature reserve "The Maasheggen" has started. Over a length of more than 12 km so called "Grindpave" asphalt paths are constructed in various widths. As baring layer a GeoCrete® stabilization is used which, in case of flooding in this floodplain area, needs to provide sufficient strength and baring capacities to keep the "Grindpave" asphalt in place. Parts of the plan follow the trail of the famous "Pieterpad. One of the main reasons why is opted for the combination of a GeoCrete® stabilization and Grindpave special asphalt, is because the existing river clay-like soil could be used for the baring layer with an attractive and appropriate landscaping asphalt type which offers maximum comfort to a rapidly growing bicycle / recreational group.
