PRELIMINARY RESEARCH:

To implement successfully soil stabilization or immobilization in a work, preliminary research into the possibilities of application of soil stabilization / immobilization in that work is essential. This PRELIMINARY RESEARCH is probably the most important step in the process. To be able to stabilize natural soils, it is important to have a clear indication of the most important parameters.

A standard preliminary research includes the following tests:

Nr. Test description In accordance with:

1.

Mixing of various test cylinders containing soil from the construction site, various binders in various percentages

RAW 22.3.

2.

Establishment of the percentage and character of organic elements  in the soil, establishment of humus percentage in the soil, establishment of fulvic acid in soil

NEN-EN 1744-1,

art. 15.1 & 5.

3.

Establishment of the density of the soil and the relation between moisture content and density of soil. Execution of Proctor test

RAW 5.1.

About existing / natural soils:

Terrastab BV stabilizes the existing soil at a construction site, meaning the top layer of the soil profile using cement as binder. Because most top layers contain humus acids, it’s impossible to get a stabile construction using only cement / lime as binder. Humus acids (mainly being fulvic and carbon acids) are the blocking the binding of cement with the soil. Application of a special additive to cement called GeoCrete® neutralizes the various humus acids de-blocking the necessary cement hydration.

RESEARCH AFTER EXECUTION OF STABILIZATION

Of course research into the results of the stabilization is done after completion of the construction. Important is to get confirmation that the results of the stabilization are in line with the results from the preliminary research tests. Most of the time it’s sufficient to drill cores out of the construction. This will give an immediate indication about the quality of the stabilization and the milling depth.
In every project Terrastab BV will drill cores on places directed by the client. These drill cores will be properly examined and tested in a laboratory.
